Position Overview
The Arborforce Safety Monitor/Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring the safety of our field operations and assists with compliance of OSHA and ANSI standards within the tree service industry. This position is responsible for overseeing safety protocols, daily equipment readiness, supporting team members in Arborforce’s safety and training programs, and conducting on-site safety audits and incident reports. Documentation of activities, including safety audits, training progress, and inspections, is a critical component of this role to maintain comprehensive safety records and support continuous improvement.
Working closely with Arborforce leadership, the Safety Monitor/Supervisor will identify safety concerns, suggest operational improvements based on field observations, and document findings through field safety audits.
The Safety Monitor/Supervisor position is a cornerstone of Arborforce’s Employee Development Program, providing essential mentorship, real-time training, and compliance checks for employees advancing through Ground Technician to Foreman roles. This role is foundational to establishing a culture of safety and professional growth within Arborforce, serving as a stepping-stone for career advancement into future safety management roles. In addition to a competitive salary, this position includes a work truck, laptop, and phone to facilitate duties efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Morning Crew Setup & Safety Equipment Inventory
• Oversee safety equipment inventory, ensuring each crew has the required, well-maintained gear for the day’s tasks.
• Conducting the weekly safety tailboard. Lead weekly safety tailboard meetings to reinforce critical safety protocols, share updates, and provide crews with actionable insights to mitigate risks during upcoming tasks.
• Facilitate open communication to encourage feedback and address safety concerns.
• Ensure that crews have the necessary and appropriate equipment to perform the day’s services, based on work orders and specific equipment needs for each job.
• Conduct a daily pre-departure safety check with crews, reinforcing key safety priorities.
• Verify equipment readiness, document any missing or defective equipment, and ensure replacements are provided promptly.
Field-Based Safety Training, Mentorship & Personnel Coverage
• Actively work alongside crews, filling in for absent personnel as needed.
• Utilize field time to assess safety needs, identify gaps, and provide on-the-spot training to support Arborforce’s structured Employee Development Program.
• Implement and oversee training programs, ensuring new hires complete onboarding and supporting ongoing training to promote safety and professional development.
• Mentor team members working through Arborforce’s safety and training programs, reinforcing skills and safety standards introduced at each career level.
• Document field safety audits to assess compliance, provide feedback, and enhance Arborforce’s safety culture while preventing future incidents.
Safety Documentation
• Conduct random reviews of Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) documents across teams, focusing on accuracy and completeness. Reviews will also occur if specific information is found to be missing or inadequate.
• Conduct and document monthly inspections of fall protection, fire extinguishers, and first aid supplies, maintaining records and addressing deficiencies to ensure crew safety and compliance.
• Complete incident reports and perform detailed investigations for any on-site incidents or near-misses.
• Maintain comprehensive safety records, including audit results, JHA reviews, incident reports, and individual training progress.
Continuous Safety & Operational Improvement
• Collaborate with Arborforce leadership to identify operational improvements and safety concerns observed during regular duties.
• Propose enhancements to safety practices based on field observations and incident reports.
• Conducting the disciplinary policy. Serve as a liaison between field crews and management to enforce Arborforce’s disciplinary policy consistently and equitably. Address infractions promptly while maintaining a constructive and professional approach.
• Stay current with OSHA and ANSI standards relevant to tree services and at-height work, implementing best practices into daily safety routines.
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Daily Equipment Checklist
• Inspect each crew’s equipment for compliance with Arborforce safety standards.
• Document any missing or defective equipment and ensure replacements are provided.
JHA Review Process
• Conduct random checks of team Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) to ensure they meet safety and accuracy standards. Address any observed gaps or omissions with the respective crew.
• Provide feedback and require corrections if any risk assessments or controls are lacking.
Incident Reporting & Investigation
• Immediately address any safety incidents or near-misses, providing on-the-spot coaching.
• Complete incident reports with thorough details, root-cause analysis, and recommended corrective actions.
Safety Equipment Inventory Management
• Track, order, and manage safety equipment inventory to ensure all crews have adequate and functional safety gear.
• Coordinate with suppliers as needed to restock equipment efficiently.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Minimum of 2 years in a safety-focused role, ideally in tree service or a similar at-height, OSHA- and ANSI-regulated industry. Verified and qualified field experience may waive this requirement at the discretion of Arborforce leadership.
• Completion of relevant safety certifications, with a Certified Treecare Safety Professional (CTSP) qualification highly encouraged as part of continued professional development.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to lead on-site safety training.

Throughout the morning, they collaborate with crew members in the field, offering on-the-spot training and mentorship, particularly to team members progressing through Arborforce’s safety training program. They may assist in filling in for missing personnel, taking this opportunity to observe safety practices in action and identify areas for improvement.
In the afternoon, the Safety Monitor/Supervisor continues field visits, making safety observations and gathering feedback from crew members to bring back to the leadership team. They may complete incident reports, investigate any issues that arose, and document findings. The day concludes with a review of inventory needs for safety equipment and preparation for the next day’s crew setup.
Compensation Outline
Based on industry standards and roles with similar safety and field responsibilities in the vegetation management and tree service sectors, the compensation range for this Safety Monitor/Supervisor position is estimated to be between $60,000 and $80,000 annually. This range is designed to be competitive with comparable roles in the field, ensuring Arborforce attracts and retains qualified safety professionals. When determining the final pay for this candidate, the current pay of the employee should be taken into consideration to maintain consistency and fairness within the team.
Due to the nature of this role and the variability in daily duties—including both fieldwork and operational responsibilities—this position is typically classified as salaried.
